Keyboard Shortcuts

The Ribbon at the top of each Microsoft Office program is designed to quickly access various features within the program, however, sometimes using the mouse isn’t quick enough especially for a repetitive task. Most features on the Ribbon also have keyboard shortcuts which can be revealed by pressing the Alt key.


When you have an office program in focus, such as Microsoft Word, press Alt on your keyboard. Small boxes containing letters will appear next to the different buttons on the Ribbon as show below:

Press the letter on your keyboard for the corresponding button on the Ribbon. In this example we pressed Alt then H to reveal keyboard shortcuts for the Home Tab:

Continuing to press the additional letters or numbers will result in the same function as clicking on the button with the mouse. 

NOTE: Some buttons have additional keyboard shortcuts which can be found by hovering the mouse over the button until the pop up description box appears:
